WPT World Championship to include largest freeroll in poker history
- WPT World Championship schedule confirmed
- $5 million freeroll announces as part of the festival schedule
One year after offering the largest guaranteed prize pool in poker history, the World Poker Tour is bolstering this year’s extensive WPT World Championship festival schedule by offering a $5 million freeroll.
The ClubWPT Gold $5M Invitational Freeroll will celebrate the launch of WPT’s newest partner, ClubWPT Gold, and offer $1 million as the first-place prize.
In a press release, WPT CEO and President Adam Pliska said: "Our return to Wynn Las Vegas this December is equipped with another monumental investment into the development and growth of not only the WPT World Championship, but the poker industry as a whole.
"In celebration of the launch of ClubWPT Gold, we’re aiming for another first for the poker world with the largest freeroll ever offered."
The freeroll is a collaboration between WPT Global and ClubWPT Gold and will run December 13-15 – beginning one day before the start of the $10,400 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
As part of the $5 million freeroll prize pool, 100 players will win entry to the WPT World Championship, played December 14-21.
ClubWPT Gold is a new online poker product operating on a sweepstakes-based platform, similar to ClubWPT, legally serving most of the United States.
ClubWPT Gold will allow members to play poker games against others by utilizing the platform’s Gold Coins, virtual coins with no monetary value.
Sweeps Coins can be obtained through various promotional methods, including a free mode of entry, and may be redeemed for cash and prizes.
To secure a seat in this year’s freeroll, players must obtain a “Golden Passport” through ClubWPT Gold. Through to December 13, ClubWPT Gold will award up to 2,000 Golden Passports through a variety of online promotions, contests and giveaways for ClubWPT Gold members.
Once a player has registered for ClubWPT Gold, they will be eligible to participate in the various promotions that allow a chance at winning a Golden Passport. The official Golden Passport and corresponding details will be released in the coming weeks.
The 2024 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas will include three starting flights, held on December 14, 15 and 16. Players can enter each starting flight a single time. The grand finale will be live streamed and filmed for television on December 21.
Last year the event drew 3,835 players and Daniel Sepiol claimed the title of WPT World Champion with a top prize of $5,282,954.
The WPT Prime Championship features a $5 million guarantee with four starting flights. The $1,100 buy-in event begins on Dec. 8 and will conclude on Dec. 14. In 2023, the WPT Prime Championship drew 10,512 that pushed the prize pool to $10,196,640. The first-place prize of $1,386,280 was secured by Calvin Anderson.
"We have crafted an incredible schedule for this year's World Championship, featuring more than 60 tournaments and satellites," said Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas.
"I’m confident that the loyal fanbase of Wynn Las Vegas and WPT, as well as more than 500 qualifiers and satellite winners, will make the 2024 WPT World Championship another rousing success."
Other staples of the festival, which runs December 3-23, include the $1,100 WPT Ladies Championship, which is scheduled for Dec. 14-15 and features a $250,000 guarantee, and the $1,100 Seniors Championship, scheduled for December 18-19 with a $500,000 guarantee.
